Wells House and Gardens
Features
Wells House is a large 19th century house in County Wexford.
The house may be an ideal filming location for scenes that need a opulent and venerable period house. The exterior of the house has a striking and memorable silhouette, and the aged and lichen spotted red brick and grey granite gives the house a beautiful and aged feel. The interiors are well preserved architecturally and include magnificent period accurate furniture and dressings.
Also elevating the location is its marvellous gardens and grounds. The grounds cover 185 acres, of which, 75 acres are agricultural lands, while the remaining space is comprised of gardens, woodland, and yards. The gardens include many paths and flower beds. The location has a 450m long lane way that leads up to the front of the building. The tree-lined approach gives the building a dramatic impact.
There are over 40 rooms in the main house. Rooms of note are the library, the main stairs and the drawing room. The drawing room is white panelled and very stylish. Also of note is the basement, that includes store rooms. Outside the main house, there are five self catering chalets. The location is a tourism destination and is also often used for weddings and other functions.
The estate was built between ~1850. It was designed by Daniel Robertson in the Tudor Gothic style. Robertson also designed Johnstown Castle, Wilton Castle, and Castleboro House.
