National Opera House

Features

The National Opera House is an opera house and multipurpose venue in Wexford town.

The opera house may be an ideal filming location for scenes that need a large and impressive auditorium, for scenes set in a theatre, or for scenes that are set in the lobby of a performance space. Built in 2008, the Opera House is an award winning, world-class venue. It is modern, well-equipped and fit for a variety of purposes.

The location has two auditoriums. The O’Reilly Theatre is the main auditorium and the Jerome Hynes Theatre is a smaller blackbox theatre. The Jerome Hynes seats 172, and the O’Reilly seats 855. The O’Reilly Theatre is lined with American black walnut which gives the space a striking and intimate feel. The main stage is 9.5 metres by 9 metres (excluding wings). The smaller blackbox stage is 9.5 metres by 4.5 metres.

Backstage, there are rehearsal spaces, a dance studio, changing rooms, a board room and an open plan meeting room. The Opera House’s lobby is modern and bright and features a wooden staircase that reaches up to the third floor. Also on the premises are four bars and a restaurant.

Outside, the building has an unassuming entranceway and the building is tucked away in a winding residential street in Wexford town.
