Enniscorthy
Features
Enniscorthy is a riverside town in central County Wexford, Ireland.
The area may make an ideal filming location for scenes that need a picturesque urban environment, and especially for ones that need a town with a period feel. The town is centred along the gorgeous River Slaney, and comprises old-fashioned winding streets that lead outwards away from the river. Many of the shop fronts and buildings have a timeless and vintage feel. The town was the main filming location for many scenes in the Oscar-nominated Brooklyn for this reason.
The town is the second largest in County Wexford, and so has many individual spots and buildings that may work as filming locations. A Norman castle is nestled in a steep street near the town centre and it gives the town a timeless and impressive quality. Nearby Vinegar Hill dominates the location’s skyline and gives it a unique visual. The recently renovated Athenaeum adds to the town’s array of period buildings. Just outside the town is St Senan’s Hospital, which is a beautiful former 19th century psychiatric hospital. The town is also located near many of the county’s big houses, like Wilton Castle, Edermine House, and Wells House.
