Announcing the Winners
We are excited to announce the recipients of two key initiatives designed to support emerging filmmaking talent in County Wexford.
The Recipients
Congratulations to Paul Wreck (Filming) and Joseph Fuller (Post-Production), who have been selected as this quarter’s bursary recipients. Each will receive €500 to support the development or completion of their film projects.
About the Funds
Both bursaries are provided by Screen Wexford, in partnership with the County Wexford Arts Department, through two initiatives: the Film Professional Development Fund and the Shadowing Fund.
The Film Professional Development Fund offers financial assistance to emerging filmmakers based in County Wexford, supporting skill development or the completion of existing projects. Meanwhile, the Shadowing Fund provides Wexford-based crew members with valuable on-set experience by allowing them to shadow professional filmmakers during active film or television productions. Both funds play a vital role in nurturing the vibrant and diverse filmmaking talent in our region.

Screen Wexford congratulates Ethan Ryan, who recently completed a shadowing position on the second season of Baz Ashmawy’s Faithless. Ethan shadowed script supervisor Anna Hession and learned a lot about working on a set from her and the rest of the crew. Screen Wexford helped Ethan secure the placement with the production.
Read about Ethan’s experience below.
Ethan’s Story
“I really enjoyed my time shadowing Anna Hession, the script supervisor on Faithless in Bray. Anna immediately greeted me with a warm smile and was extremely helpful. She then introduced me to all of the crew who were super friendly and made me feel at home. Anna taught me a lot of helpful information about being a script supervisor, such as not crossing the 180° line and timing the scenes at home before the day of shooting. Anna also showed me how to use script supervising software on her tablet and advised me to bring lots of portable batteries. I learned that the script supervisor works closely with the Makeup Department as well as the Costume and Wardrobe Department to maintain continuity in their respective fields as the script supervisor has so much to keep track of. I met with many of the actors, who were all incredibly kind to me, especially Baz, who very generously took a picture with me. Shortly after that I got to see the actors rehearse and block out a scene. I was surprised how little of the crew was in the room during this rehearsal so I it felt very special to be there and witness such professional actors at work. I concluded the day by watching the scene being shot where I got to sit beside Anna and Declan Recks the director which was amazing to see. Everyone was incredibly kind from beginning to end and they all personally said goodbye at the end of the day.”

We’re thrilled to share the recipients of two incredible initiatives aimed at empowering emerging filmmakers in County Wexford:
Finishing Fund 2024
Congratulations to Dr. Leslie George and Michael Benson for receiving the Finishing Fund to support their festival entry for the short film ‘Kathleen’.
Shot in the picturesque town of Enniscorthy, ‘Kathleen’ captures the essence of Irish rural life – its landscapes, folklores, and traditional houses – while also reflecting a universal family narrative. The film follows Kathleen, an elderly woman who, isolated from her community and grieving the loss of her dog, struggles to find joy and connection in a life increasingly overshadowed by neglect from her daughter.
The Finishing Fund initiative was designed to assist filmmakers with an already completed short drama, documentary, or animation film, providing the resources needed to finish their work and share unique, original stories from Wexford with the world.
Shadowing Fund 2024
A big round of applause to Patrick Flemming, who has received the Shadowing Fund to shadow a cinematographer on the set.
The Shadowing Fund is dedicated to supporting Wexford-based film crews, offering opportunities to shadow and learn from experienced filmmakers on set. This fund is designed to boost skills across all departments, including Director, Producer, DOP, Art Dept, Gaffer, Editor, Scriptwriter, and more!
Both funds continue to nurture the vibrant and diverse filmmaking talent in our region, and we can’t wait to see where these opportunities take them!
This initiative is supported by Screen Wexford and Wexford County Council.
Screen Wexford, in association with Wexford County Council Arts Office, is calling for applications to its Shadowing Fund initiative. The Shadowing Fund initiative aims to support a Wexford film crew participant’s travel expenses to a film or television set while shadowing and learning from an experienced and professional film maker. These shadowing roles can be in the areas of Director, Producer, DOP, Art Dept, Gaffer, Editor, Scriptwriter, Script Editor etc.
The aim of this award is to provide up to €500 funding to emerging filmmakers based in the County Wexford region. This is to help with travel-associated costs to a set or location and stay in accommodation overnight if needed. The fund can also be used to get to an edit or soundmix if you are shadowing in the post-production sector.
We are looking for Wexford applications who are working in the industry and want to upskill or are starting off and want to learn from an experienced professional.
