New Voices 2022


Screen Wexford in association with Wexford County Council Arts Office is calling for applications to its Short Film Fund initiative – New Voices 2022. The Short Film Fund initiative is for a short drama, documentary or animation to be produced/shot in the county.

The aim of this award is to provide funding and support to emerging filmmakers based in the County Wexford region. We are looking for unique and original ideas from talented new filmmakers with authentic voices telling diverse stories reflecting the landscape of contemporary Wexford.


Funding will be available through the scheme to support a number of short films. We are seeking entries from drama, documentary and animation. A €10,000 fund will be shared between a selection of successful applicants.


€5,000 – Drama

€2,500 – Documentary or Animation

€2,500 – Documentary or Animation


The award also consists of mentorship from leading industry professionals, as well as lighting equipment hire to the value of €3,500 for Drama and €1,500 for Documentary/Animation from Film Equipment Hire.


The focus of this award for 2022 is supporting new and emerging local Writer, Director & Producer teams. At least one of the creative team must be from Wexford.

Funding will be awarded to successful Creative teams by the 1/10/22.

This is a two stage open competition opportunity. 


Stage One: Shortlisting from Applications received. 


Stage Two: Interviews with production team.



Applications will require the following elements:

  1. Short synopsis (less than 500 words)
  2. Completed Script for Drama & Animation
  3. Completed Treatment for Documentaries
  4. Director’s notes (including notes on visual style/visual references)
  5. A project outline in terms of general shoot requirements and overall approach
  6. Producer’s notes (no more than 500 words)
  7. Proposed production timeline
  8. Identification of possible Co. Wexford locations
  9. Production budget and notes on any additional funding required
  10. Confirmation that you have full legal access to the script you are submitting
  11. Short Biography or simple CV’s of the core creative team (to include Writer, Producer, Director & Cinematographer)
  12. Include all paperwork, links to samples of previous work/showreels/links, if available



  1. All of the above production paperwork is to be emailed as one PDF.
  2. Script or treatment must be a separate document. Omit author and production company names from scripts. Just a title and proposed duration.
  3. Please include all links and assets that you wish to be viewed within this submission or they will not be included
  4. Applications must be submitted electronically to:

  2. Co. Wexford as a location or represented culturally
  3. Track record and demonstrable ability of the creative team to complete and deliver the project with the resources and funds available

Assessment will involve a review of applications by a panel. The panel will include representatives from Screen Wexford’s steering group and industry-experienced filmmakers.

Successful applicants must have completed their productions by April 2023 and will be invited to screen their films in Wexford following the completion date.



  1. One of the core creative team (Writer/Director/Producer) must be from or living in Wexford.
  2. Applicants must have a short script or documentary treatment, of maximum 10 minutes in duration with a focus on Wexford as a location or Wexford Culturally. Final cut will not be held to this duration.
  3. Applicants must have full legal rights to the material they are submitting.
  4. Applicants must supply all requested materials as per application requirements.
  5. Short Dramas that need significant additional finance, have been part-shot or have been shot entirely are not eligible to apply.
  6. The Bursary will be divided into three tranches:
    1. €5,000 – Drama
    2. €2,500 – Documentary or Animation
    3. €2,500 – Documentary or Animation
  7. If a balance of funds is required, then the source must be identified clearly and detailed in your proposal.
  8. The primary shoot location must take place in Wexford.
  9. Applicants should be in a position to have the production completed including all post production by April 2023.
  10. If a production has not commenced within three months of announcing the successful applicant then Wexford County Council retains the right to award the Bursary to number two on the panel.
  11. Codes of Practice Observance; Child First Guidelines including appropriate Garda Vetting procedures, Health & Safety Regulations, Equal Opportunities policies and procedures must be in place and adhered to where relevant and in all cases.
  12. Wexford County Council, Wexford Arts department & Screen Wexford must be acknowledged by the promoter/applicant on all websites and social media platforms, publicity, press and marketing material produced in connection with the Short Film Fund initiative.
  13. Wexford County Council’s logo & the Screen Wexford logo must be included in the final cut, in all associated printed material, on posters, flyers etc and on all websites. Copies of all such material produced must be sent to Screen Wexford. Logos can be requested from Screen Wexford.
  14. Please note that Wexford County Council reserves the right not to award the bursary if none of the applications received are deemed to be suitable.
  15. Eligibility and compliance with these guidelines and conditions does not guarantee receipt of an award.
  16. Acceptance of these conditions and guidelines is implied by submission of an Application to the Short Film Fund initiative.
